Lions Chat - Pidgin Client Program
Windows GaimDownload the latest version of Pidgin here, then run the downloaded file. The installer is a pretty standard Windows installer. The defaults are generally OK, but on the "Choose Components" screen, you may wish to tick the options for a desktop shortcut (to put an icon on your desktop) and English spellchecking support.
The first time you run Pidgin you will have to set up an account to use. Click the Add button to add an account.
- Select IRC from the drop-down Protocol list
- Enter a suitable nickname (eg your IC name or forum user name) in the Screen Name box. Note that spaces are not allowed, but you can use underscores (_) instead
- Enter irc.blitzed.org in the Server box
- Leave Password and Local alias blank
- Click Save to save the details and close the window
- Click the Close button on the Accounts window to close it
There will now be two windows displayed. One is an accounts window, which shows the accounts you have set up. This window can be closed. The second window shows your buddy list, which should be empty. You will now add the Lions OOC channel to your buddy list, which will allow you to go to it in future by simply double-clicking it's entry in the list:
- From the Buddies menu, select Add Chat...
- An "Add Chat" window will appear. Make sure that the IRC account is selected in the Account: drop-down box (it will be listed as something like "Russ@irc.blitzed.org"
- In the Channel: box, enter "LionsOOC"
- Leave the Password: box blank
- Optional: you can enter something in the Alias: box. If you do, this will be the name that is used in the buddy list. If you leave this blank, it will use the channel name in the buddy list.
- Optional: you can select a group for the channel to be listed in. The buddy list is organised in groups, so this can be a useful way of organising it if you have a long list
- Optional: If you tick the Autojoin when account becomes online box, it will automatically open the chat window when you connect. Otherwise, you will have to manually double-click the chat in the buddy list to enter the chat.
- Click the Add button to add the chat
